While the starship U.S.S. Encarta is on route to a peace delegation at the planet delorn, the bridge suddenly reports that they have encountered a huge rift in space. Captain Lynch (Ryan Webber), whom has been on peace missions for the past year is looking for some excitement and orders the Encarta off course to investigate. On arrival Lt. Cmdr. Herato (Ryan Mey) uncovers a huge special anomaly that seams to be expanding every hour. It also has a temporal signature being emitted from within. Lynch orders to proceed in with caution. Just then another Federation Starship appears, non other than The U.S.S. Truman, her systems disabled. McKnight leads an away team where they find the crew has disappeared. Suddenly a man appears, telling them to proceed to the engine room where their engineer is badly wounded. He then vanishes as Herato is attacked by a form of energy and goes into nueral shock. McKnight’s crew finds non other than Lt. Tyler (Patrick Dines) in the Main Engine room suffering from shock and dying. Doctor McFoster (Nathan Bisel) returns to sickbay with him. On further investigation Lt. Jones (Derrick Anderson) locates strange carvings on a bulkhead just as Ranks downloads the Truman's log entries. They locate, and capture Ensign Tate (Robert W. Ford)

On return to the ship Lynch goes to sickbay and talks to Tyler before he passes. Tyler tells him the Truman was no where near the rift, but exploring the planet Menous light years in the other direction. And then, the crew disappeared and he and a handful of other crewman were left to tend for the ship. Lynch gracefully accepts Truman officer Tate into his crew on a helm duty shift. The crew learns of more mysteries at the planet Menous while reviewing the log entries they retrieved from the Truman. The Encarta begins to experience power failures similar to the conditions on the Truman.

Red Alert! An alien ship appears out of the space rift and prepares to engage the Encarta into battle because they believed that the Encarta is the vessel that pulled them into the anomaly and sent them 40,000 light years away from there home. Just as the attack begins the alien ship is disabled by the power interference from the anomaly. Lynch orders the Encarta to safe distance, and then to the Planet Menous in hopes of furthering the investigation into how to stop the rift, and the mystery of the Truman.

At the planet Menous the away team locates a circular group of tress that has the same carvings on them that were on the Truman bulkheads. Dr. McFoster identifies the markings as ancient curses similar to strange 18th century earth witchcraft, and that the planet was also once inhabited by a civilization before they were all mysteriously wiped out. He also suggests that Tate and Herato whom were attacked by the Energy on the Truman could be infected with the virus that plagued the people of the planet. On return to the Encarta Tate holds Lt. Ranks (Sara Zimmerman) hostage.
